Cyclical Living Thought #3: Cycle-conscious work - how you can develop your full potential

The menstrual cycle not only affects physical health, but also our energy, creativity and concentration. By understanding your cycle and working with your natural fluctuations, you can organize yourself better and make your everyday life more efficient. It's not about limitations, but about consciously using your strengths in every phase.

The four phases of the cycle and how they can support you

  1. Menstrual phase (days 1–5): time for clarity and reflection
During menstruation, your body is regenerating. Some women experience lower energy during this phase, which provides a good opportunity to focus on quieter, strategic tasks. This is the ideal time to make plans, evaluate past projects, or think through new ideas.
  2. Follicular phase (days 6–13): your creative peak
The rising estrogen levels provide a boost of energy and promote creativity and problem-solving skills. This phase is ideal for starting new projects, thinking innovatively and working on challenging tasks. You feel motivated and can use this time for activities that require focus and creativity.
  3. Ovulation phase (days 14–16): Strength in communication and cooperation
Around ovulation, many women feel more confident and social. Your communication skills are at their peak, which makes this phase perfect for teamwork, presentations or negotiations. Use these days to have important conversations or make contacts.
  4. Luteal phase (days 17–28): focus and completion
During the luteal phase, progesterone prepares your body for rest, which can promote analytical thinking and detailed work. Now is a good time to complete projects and work on to-do lists. Towards the end of this phase, some women experience PMS symptoms - so make a conscious effort to schedule time for yourself if you're feeling a little emotionally or physically drained.

Practical tips for working in a cycle-appropriate manner

  • Self-management instead of self-criticism: It's not about limiting yourself to cycle phases, but rather consciously using your strengths. You decide how you structure your everyday life.
  • Use cycle apps: Tools like Clue or Flo can help you track your cycle and plan tasks to harmonize with your natural fluctuations.
  • Consciously design your work structure: Set ambitious goals during creative phases and plan tasks that require less intensive energy for quieter times. This way you can stay productive without overtaxing yourself.

Why working according to the cycle should not be taboo

You don't have to talk about your cycle if it doesn't feel right - it's about developing an understanding for yourself of how to best use your personal energy. Many women experience greater satisfaction when they understand themselves better and take the pressure off of being equally efficient at every stage. It's a tool for you, not a reason to explain yourself.
